From Palma to Puig de Maria: A Practical Guide

Published on December 10, 2024

Getting There

Take the 301 bus from Palma’s Estación Intermodal to Pollensa or Port de Pollença. To reach the bus platform, go down the stairs from the main station entrance and head to Dock 15. As of 2 May 2023, this is the departure point for the L301 route. The current timetable is available here.

The easiest way to pay is with a contactless card, which works for tapping in and out on intercity buses. If you’re traveling on Palma’s city buses, note that they only accept cash or pre-loaded transit cards.

Consider stopping in Pollensa for a visit before heading to Puig de Maria. The town offers historic streets, local cafes, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Hiking to Puig de Maria

The Puig de Maria rises 330 metres above sea level and is home to a 14th-century monastery built to protect against pirate raids. Later, it became a site for religious pilgrimage and was also used during the Spanish Civil War as a lookout.

From the bus stop in Pollensa, it’s a short walk to the base of the hill. The route begins as a paved road before turning into a cobbled path. The hike is steep in sections and takes around 30–40 minutes to reach the top. Along the way, you may spot goats grazing on the hillside.

At the summit, you’ll find the monastery, a small chapel, and an open courtyard. The views over Pollensa and the surrounding countryside make the climb worthwhile.
